Improvement overview

With the extensive improvements the MSC proposes in the consultation and Certification Requirements review this year, this change has been developed to ensure that certificate holders are informed of MSC policy changes.

This item has now reached the implementation stage. New changes were released in CR version 1.4 on 31 January 2014 and become effective from 31 March 2014.

Current status

Following a series of public consultation stages, workshops with Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs), meetings of the MSC's Technical Advisory Board (TAB) and Board of Trustees (BoT) that took place between 2013 and early 2014, the proposal has been approved.

 

Core requirements

MSC have now introduced a new requirement  that CABs shall, in the case of an amendment to the MSC Standards or MSC Certification Requirements, communicate this to their certificate holders within 60 days. The MSC shall provide standardised wording that the CAB can use. All CABs and all fishery and chain of custody MSC certificate holders will be affected with this new requirement.

Planned work

The revised requirements and guidance were published in the MSC CR version 1.4 on 31 January 2014 and are available to download at the MSC website.

The amendments listed under the certification requirements 7.3.2 and will apply as follow:

Where there is an amendment to the MSC Standards or the MSC Certification Requirements the CAB shall communicate this to the relevant certificate holders within 60 days of the amended version being issued.

The CAB shall include the summary of changes provided by the MSC in this communication.
